Stuck For Words?

By Jason Stevens

If you write in any fashion, especially for articles, a blog, or social networking sites, every now and again, one will inevitably encounter 'writers block'.

You may also fell that your particular subject or niche may be exhausted for writing. This is not the case.

One way to come up with some suitable idea's and throw off that writers block is to start with a broad niche term.

Let's say for example you love golf, you play, you write a blog and maybe even have an eBay store or website that sells golf items.

You want to add some information to your blog but are stuck for some idea's. I came across a simple solution to find that every time I use this little 'trick' I always have something to write about.

The 1/20/20 tip

Get a piece of paper or use notepad on your computer as a scratchpad, whatever you find best that works for you.

Using 'Golf' as the one word header, I then come up with 20 other more narrow keywords.

From Golf I may get 'golf clubs', 'golf shoes', 'golf clothing' and another 17 keywords.

From 'golf clubs', I can narrow down for even more specific or niche subjects, I may get 'golf clubs for left handers','golf clubs for right handers', 'golf clubs for women','golf clubs for children', and another 16 keywords.

So then using the 1/20/20 tip, I suddenly have 401 keywords, niches or specific information that one can write about on a SINGLE subject.

I found your idea pretty useful - thanks. I'll be putting it to to use on one of my next fictional stories!

Thankyou Gracey,

Just another one of those very simple tools to use for writing that's right up there with the K.I.S.S. principle.

I like this Jason. This is a very useful tip. Thanks a bunch.

My pleasure James,

Happy for anyone that finds this of use.

Unfortunately I suffer from the reverse problem - knowing how to stop writing when enough has been written.

This idea of micro-niches and keyword specific articles never quite caught on for me.

Being specific in a niche all comes down to how one wants to govern the traffic one gets to their articles/blogs/websites/e-stores, etc.

Since folk already know the broad aspects of a subject, they want to find specific information for what they want to find. I find it much easier for example, to look for 'golf clubs for women' on a site catering for that rather than wading through a site that has a large range of golfing items for sale.

Narrowing down a broad subject to a niche helps people find what they are looking for much more quickly.

Another thing you can do is just watch TV with a pen and paper and write down keywords as you hear them. If you watch the news words that are relevant to current events will end up on your pad.

Watch an old movie and another set of words will appear.

Then expand each of these using the 1/20/20

Or 20/20/20

It great to use and apply any tips one finds easy to use and adapt. This is what makes it easy especially when one suffers a writers block. We each have our ways of producing written work, easy tips are good as there are no hard and fast rules, just one find what works best for oneself.

Excellent suggestions. I will be using it for sure Thank you.

Thanks for the commentary June

I knew of the K.I.S.S. principle, Jason, but I never heard of the 1/20/20 tip.
Thank you for sharing.
Best wishes.

You would not have heard of it before Frederick, as I have only been using the principle through self discovery the last six months.

Cheers

Well done Jason. Starting to get to where you need to be for adding quality material to your website/s.

I used to teach the students in my English class to do something quite similar when formulating ideas for their essays. I got some incredulous stares from students on the first day of class when I told them never to tell me they had writer's block because I do not believe it exists. Truly, there is no such thing. I believe that skills can be taught and then inspiration follows.
