Top 5 Reasons Why You Need To Write Articles
By Jason Stevens
Article Writing, for some a bit of a chore and no more exciting than being like a frog with a dry bum on a hot day. For others it's an exciting way to express ones thoughts, feelings, skills, endeavors, expertise, a way to earn money or to simply establish a 'name' for themselves on the internet. If one is interested in making some money, or merely as a means of generating traffic to a website, a blog, a Squidoo Lens, HubPages hub, an affiliate landing page or ANY type of website. Hands down, unless you have a reputation and are a well known figure within your chosen field of endeavor, nothing beats article writing for generating traffic - for FREE. So what are the top 5 reasons why you need to write articles? 1 - You Develop New Or Existing Writing Skills - You gain experience in writing and write often enough, you develop and write better over time. No use having articles on a subject if no-one finds it legible due to spelling or grammatical errors. 2 - You Gain A Better Understanding Of The Importance Of Niches - A Niche is a subject, yet it is a highly focused subject and it helps your information become better found and rank better especially in search engines. More beneficial to write about "Why Is My German Shepherd Puppy Biting It's Tail" rather than "Puppies Biting Tail". Go now and see the results just under the search entry in Google for these two terms. Big difference. 3 - Traffic, traffic, traffic - It is one of the best forms of generating direct traffic, lead generation, and back-linking your site/s. What kind of traffic will your site receive if you wrote 1,000 articles? or 2,000? The top 3 authors at Ezine Articles, have over 23,000+, 20,000+ and 8,000+ articles respectively and not one of these three authors has been writing for the site longer than 5 years. Did I mention that it doesn't cost you to write? (Your here are you not?) and many places will PAY for your writing as well, from a few pennies for a 1,000 views up on lots of sites up to $200 for freelance writing on a few other sites. 4 - Readers Start To See You As An Authority On Your Chosen Niche - Over time, you will start to gain some followers, or fans, or people asking questions to you, about the niche you are writing in. Even if you don't consider yourself an expert in your field, if you write often, and readers like the way you write an express information, eventually you gain a following (and for some its very hard to tell them you are NOT an authority, just someone who has a keen interest or does it as a hobby) 5 - You Don't Know Where It Will Lead - This is usually exciting for those chosen when it happens. Say your a hobbyist about movies, you LOVE movies, old new, romance, drama, action, if it is on celluloid, you devour it. You may have a Blog about movie reviews, you write articles on several sites about directors, actors, famous scenes, upcoming movies, gossip in Hollywood. Then one day a publisher for an ezine with 10,000 readers comes across your blog, reads some of your work and wants to you to write a 'guest review' for an upcoming movie. So you watch the film and write a review, and the ezine will pay you $25 for your effort. Not bad, even better when they continually ask you to submit reviews once a week and then decide to pay $35 each time. A nice little earner there for a 500 word article. So as outlined above, there are few places I know, that can provide that sort of benefit for traffic generation, and allow you to do it for free. Now go and write an article! |

Although the basic premise is correct, just as the massive spread of 'review' sites has reduced the value of the internet as a research tool, the mass distribution of article spinners and article submitters has created a nightmare for people seeking articles to use on their own sites. PLR articles have become the rising damp of the internet. I see PLR articles being given away that were written several years ago. With a quick spin or a clip-art style amalgamation people who know nothing about the subjects are able to flood article sites with 'unique' articles that add little or no value. I used to make use of article sites for quality content but it is too time consuming now to check so I write my own for my own use. When I look at the quality of some of the No1 articles, it is very apparent that the articles have been created for SEO purposes rather than content.

Excellent commentary here Oldcoot, and I agree that so much avilable PLR crap is hurting the authentic, hand typed, well researched and thought out REAL articles. One aspect I am always fighting is the real genuine articles are getting harder to tell apart form the PLR garbage that is on the ever increase. Eventually time will tell if people just want the 'spin' or if they are truly after real, genuine, insightful information.
Five excellent reasons for writing, indeed. If I may add a 6, you can make money writing articles -- either as a freelance writer or as contributor to sites like For.titu.de, Triond or Associated Content.

Absolutely June, Most writers who I correspond with often tell me their first start on making an online income is on the sites you suggest. Unfortunately, for those of us like me, Associated Content is no longer applying payments for ANY content to non-US residents. I still write there and write often as it still provides me with good back-links to other sites.
Those are all good reasons to write articles. My wife gives me inspiration. As a full time author she writes 3500 to 6000 words a day of new original content for her next book. Each new book sets up a new source of residual income.

I know that writing non-fiction and fiction novels is a slightly different kettle of fish, but I am still glad that there are book authors in the world. For all the younger generation running over each other for the lastest Kindle or iPad, I myself still like the look, feel and smell of a good ol' novel, especially in winter when I can curl up to a good read under warm covers. many years ago I had aspirations for writing as an author, but found my endeavors were more suited here 'online'
***** stars! Now I'm really motivated and inspired to write, thanks!

I write, I write when I'm tired, I write when I am sick of writing and then I write some more. To me, it is a slow, sometimes lonely, sometimes long drawn out experience, that in the short term, seems to not have any initial gain or benefit. But I am doing it for the long haul. So within the meantime, I write simply to ensure somehow I have enlightened, educated, humored, or given pause and thought to those who read my 'stuff'. I even appreciate those who may disagree, we are all writers with differing points of view, and ALL of this makes for interesting outcomes.
I'll see your five stars and raise you three stars.

Will these stars spill over into my less than 5-star intels??? :)
Excellent Intel, Jason. I'm not a prolific writer by any means, but I write as and when.

odls, It is what makes for an interesting journey, sometimes much more fun than the final destination.
You're right (or is that write?) There are many good reasons to get started. I've not used Associated Content, but ezinearticles and goarticles are sites I've used for years.
5*'s for 5 excellent points with #1 being the most important. I've noticed that I've grown more comfortable writing. You can also gain more experience writing by commenting on articles as well. When commenting I try to reference something in the article which forces me to put more thought into it instead of just saying "good article". Thanks Rosemary
